Dirk Eilander is an accomplished academic and researcher with extensive experience in water management and environmental research. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam since May 2017, Dirk has also held positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher and PhD Candidate, focusing on the compound risk of river and coastal floods in global deltas and estuaries. Concurrently, Dirk has worked as a Researcher at Deltares since April 2014. Prior to these roles, Dirk gained practical experience as a Research Intern at the International Water Management Institute, researching Ecosystem Services in the Lower Mekong Basin, and as a Junior Researcher at TU Delft, where research on small reservoir monitoring was conducted. Additional experience includes field hydrology work with Engineers Without Borders, customer support at TOPdesk, and a board member role at Happietaria Delft, a charity restaurant. Dirk holds a Master of Science in Water Management and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology, along with a Master's degree in Geohydrology from Flinders University.
