Michael Berkowitz

International Advisory Board Member

Michael Berkowitz is the Executive Director of the Climate Resilience Institute at the University of Miami, a position held since 2023, where they lead interdisciplinary efforts to address climate change. They previously served as a Deputy Commissioner at the New York City Emergency Management Department from 1998 to 2005 and were the founding principal of Resilient Cities Catalyst from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, they have been an International Advisory Board Member at Deltares since 2018 and a National Advisory Council Member for FEMA focusing on climate change from 2022 to 2025. Prior to their current roles, they served as President of 100 Resilient Cities under The Rockefeller Foundation from 2013 to 2019 and held the position of Editor at Emergency Preparedness News from 1995 to 1998.
