Ian Carroll has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Ian currently works at Denim as a Senior Software Engineer, where they develop technical implementations for the financial needs of freight brokers, carriers, and shippers. Ian works full stack on modern technology including Elixir and React, and maintains code cleanliness through Agile methods.
Prior to Denim, Ian worked at Impro Theatre as a Technical Improviser, where they handled OBS operations, live editing, music, and foley for streaming improv shows. Ian also operated lights and sound for live in-person shows and coached and mentored other improvisers.
Before that, they served as the Chief Technical Director & Lead Software Engineer at Squirrelington Studios, where they developed streaming video services for theatrical ensembles and designed and built studio hardware flypacks and camera squadrons.
Ian also has experience at 8th Light as a Senior Software Engineer, where they mentored new mentors, produced and hosted a pair programming show, and worked on various projects. Ian started as a Software Engineer's Apprentice, teaching himself advanced practices in software engineering.
Their earlier work experience includes roles such as Digital Sales Lead at Barnes & Noble, Subtitle Editor at VITAC, Chinese Garden Docent at Huntington Library, and Tea Instructor at LUPICIA Fresh Tea. Ian Carroll attended Towson University from 2001 to 2005, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Theatre. In 2004, they also participated in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts Summer School, focusing on Shakespeare. In addition to their educational background, Ian Carroll obtained certifications such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in February 2022 and Certified ScrumMaster from Scrum Alliance in July 2016.
