John W. Thompson is a seasoned executive with extensive experience in leadership roles across various technology companies. Currently serving as a Venture Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners since May 2018 and Chairman of the Board at Microsoft since February 2014, Thompson has also held positions such as Executive Advisor at Riverwood Capital Management and Chief Executive Officer at Virtual Instruments. Notably, Thompson was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Symantec for over a decade and General Manager IBM Americas during a 28-year tenure at IBM. Thompson holds a Master's in Management Science from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
