Alex Uriarte has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. In 2000, they worked as a Consultant and Project Manager at BSD Consulting, where they supported agricultural development projects for local and European clients. Alex was responsible for overseeing various initiatives, including social standards compliance for fair trade markets and analyzing the potential for sustainable agribusiness.
From 2001 to 2003, Alex worked as a Professor at Integrated Colleges Campos Salles and later joined USAID in 2003 as an Economic Growth Officer. At USAID, they led the mission's economic growth strategic objective, managing projects supporting small and medium enterprises and overseeing trade initiatives. Alex also played a key role in designing Paraguay's economic growth strategic objective.
In 2006, Alex joined ICF as a Senior Associate, where they contributed to the development of new business catering to the Latin American region. Alex led environmental policy studies for various organizations, including the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment and UNDP.
In 2016, Alex joined DevTech Systems, Inc. as Chief of Party for two different USAID projects. In their first role, they provided analytics, data, visualization, and information services to USAID. Alex Uriarte has a strong educational background in economics and development studies. Alex began their academic journey at USP - Universidade de São Paulo, where they obtained a B.A. in Economics from 1986 to 1989. Alex then pursued further studies at FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas, earning a Masters degree in Business Economics from 1991 to 1994. Continuing their education, they enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completing an M.S. in Economics from 1994 to 1996. Finally, Alex obtained their highest academic achievement, a Ph.D. in Development Studies, also from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they studied from 1996 to 2000.
