Gert Hansen

Gert Hansen is a highly experienced taxonomist with a focus on phytoplankton and algal research. Currently employed at DHI since May 2018, Gert specializes in ballast water and phytoplankton taxonomy, employing techniques such as algal culture and the Most Probable Number method. Gert also serves as an Associate Researcher at Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen since 2008, working on algal taxonomy and cultures. Previous positions include a Curator and Consultant at NIRAS, as well as an Associate Researcher at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, where Gert focused on desmid taxonomy and environmental indicators. As a Senior Researcher at NIVA Danmark, Gert implemented the Scandinavian Culture Collection of Algae & Protozoa. Gert's extensive academic background includes a Ph.D. in Botany/Plant Biology from the University of Copenhagen and a Master's Degree in Dinoflagellate fine structure.
