Tyler Dixon

Partner, Architect at DIALOG

Tyler joined us as a partner in 2017 when his predecessor firm, newstudio, merged with DIALOG. Tyler's experience spans a wide variety of roles and project types, which gives him a comprehensive understanding of architecture through the lens of design, technology, research, and public awareness. Starting his career as an architectural technologist, his interests lie in design and material evolution, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and closing the loop between representation, detailing, and construction. He enjoys working on all aspects of a project and actively engaging with clients, consultants, and contractors.

Tyler has a great deal of international work experience. While completing his masters degree, he collaborated on a wide range of projects while working for firms in Turkey and Singapore. With strong roots in rural Alberta, he appreciates the opportunity to bring his experience abroad back to a local context and exploring what uniquely defines Albertan architecture.

Tyler has been extensively involved in his community. He has lent his time and expertise to the Infill Development in Edmonton Association (IDEA) for zoning and policy review, Alberta Association of Architects (AAA) policy review committees, and advising on the City of Edmonton’s various zoning evolutions. He elevates the next generation of architects by mentoring interns for the AAA, and has been a guest lecturer and practicum adviser for University of Alberta’s Art and Design program. Other community involvement has included AAA Banff Sessions organizing committee, Prairie Design Awards organizing committee, City Region Study Centre’s ‘Lost Spaces’ initiative, Edmonton Heritage Council, Media Architecture Design Edmonton (MADE), the Society of Northern Alberta Print-artists (SNAP), Northern Alberta Solar Society, and assisting with the formation of the Emerging Green Builders CaGBC Alberta Chapter.
