"Well, this could be a problem." That thought went through my head after I finished an all-day float trip — multiple hours from home. I, like many others, understood that insulin pumps have some level of waterproofing. While that may be true when the insulin pump is manufactured, seals wear over time, and there is a high risk when exposing an insulin pump to water. My pump got splashed a few times that day, but never fully submerged. 

Nonetheless, my insulin pump was dead by the time I finished the float trip. I was miles from home with no way to administer insulin. Depending on how far you are from a new method of administering insulin, the situation can easily go from "inconvenient and tedious" to "very dangerous". 

Hi, my name is Jarrod King. I've had type 1 diabetes for over 30 years. Diabetes is a condition we manage while trying to live our lives to the fullest, but it does not define us. I've always enjoyed living an active lifestyle, including running, swimming, going to the lake with friends, or hanging out by the pool. The problem is that all the things I enjoy inherently put my insulin pump at risk. That is why I created Diassentials. We want to give people living with diabetes the ability to push the limits without having to worry about putting your insulin pump in jeopardy.
