Thomas Eagar

Professor Eagar is an authority on materials processing and manufacturing, particularly welding and joining processes. He is a Professor of Materials Engineering and Engineering Management at MIT, where he previously served as Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Professor Eagar is a member of a number of professional societies, including the National Academy of Engineering, AWS, AIME, ASM, ASME, ASTM, and the American Academy for the Advancement of Science. He is a Fellow of AWS, ASM and AAAS, has served on various National Research Council Committees, including the Board of Manufacturing and Engineering Design and the National Materials Advisory Board. He is on the Editorial Board of the Science and Technology of Welding and Joining and has been a Principal Reviewer for the Welding Journal. Professor Eagar has published over 220 papers and holds seventeen patents. He received his B.S. and Sc.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.).
