The Digital Battery (DBL) re-imagines the cell as a semiconductor. The resulting DBL cells have some important advantages over current Lithium-Ion cells. Typically, lithium-ion batteries require significant safety and precautionary features to be incorporated into the overall design. When compared to a typical Lithium-ion cell, the DBL has no environmental, safety, or sustainability issues and minimal recycling costs. 

The Digital Battery Company offers a unique approach to solving the energy transition challenges with innovation in semiconductor technology, the intelligent IoT enabled cell, using the Digital Voltage Processor (DVPTM) ASIC. An intelligent cell that can be profiled to match existing OEM designs to increase adoption and communicate individually to maximize performance. A key characteristic of DBL cells is the incorporation of electronics for 'conversion-less power' that controls the flow of electricity without slowing down the charging process. The DBL cells operate within an IoT environment in an array of cells within a battery pack.

In an independent laboratory, DBL's innovative technology has achieved a round-trip efficiency of over 98% at temperatures ranging from -40°C to +80°C and charge rates up to 12C. A DBL cell can be charged in under 100 seconds as opposed to a lithium-ion cell which would take 3-4 hours.

The DBL team is building modular, scalable energy storage systems that are intrinsically safe and can operate at extreme temperatures, unlike lithium-ion based technologies currently in use. Product lines provided by DBL include Small / Household devices, Transport / e-mobility devices, and Energy storage systems.
