Nick M.

Director of DevOps at Direct Commerce

Nick M. has a diverse work experience spanning over 20 years. Nick started their career as a Postdoctoral Researcher at UC Berkeley, where their research focused on gene expression in Arabidopsis thaliana using microarrays. During this time, they created VIZARD, a software suite for data analysis and visualization.

After their postdoctoral work, Nick joined the Carnegie Institution for Science, where they served as the Curator of The Arabidopsis Information Resource. In this role, they contributed to the design and launch of web applications that provided access to gene expression data and conducted large-scale exploratory analysis of the Arabidopsis transcriptome.

Following their time at the Carnegie Institution, Nick returned to UC Berkeley as a Programmer Analyst III. Here, they worked on various projects involving software development and programming.

Next, Nick transitioned to Nanomix, a company developing nanoelectronic detection devices. Nick worked as a Senior Software Developer, focusing on controlling data acquisition instruments and visualizing data produced by carbon nanotube sensors.

In 2007, Nick had two concurrent roles. Nick worked as a Senior Software Developer at the Ernest Gallo Clinic and Research Center, contributing to the design and implementation of an in-house LIMS and enhancing the legacy system. Additionally, they served as a Consultant in Medical Informatics at Healthline Networks, where they designed a system for automating prescription drug content synchronization.

Most recently, Nick has been working at Direct Commerce since 2012. Nick initially joined as a Senior Software Engineer and was responsible for building e-invoicing, dispute resolution, and ticketing applications for large corporate customers. Currently, they hold the position of Director of DevOps.

Overall, Nick M. has a strong background in software development, data analysis, and research in the fields of genomics and informatics.

Nick M. has a Master's degree in Biophysics from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Additionally, they hold a Ph.D. in Genetics from the State Research Institute of Genetics and Selection of Industrial Microorganisms in Moscow, Russia. Following their doctoral studies, Nick M. pursued postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley.
