Brian James has a diverse work experience spanning several companies in the field of genomics and medical research. Brian is currently serving as the Chief Scientific Officer at Discovery Genomics, Inc. since July 2021. Prior to that, Brian worked at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute as the Director Genomics Core from April 2013 to July 2021.
Before joining Sanford Burnham, Brian spent several years at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where they held multiple roles. From April 2012 to May 2013, they served as the Data Sequencing Project Core Leader, where they established and managed the sequencing bioinformatic analysis core to support Next-Generation Sequencing for the UT MD Anderson Department of Experimental Therapeutics. Besides this role, they also worked as a Senior Research Scientist at MD Anderson from January 2006 to April 2012.
Brian's early work experience includes a research associate position at Invitrogen from August 1991 to July 1994.
Throughout their career, Brian has demonstrated expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, and research project management.
Brian James completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Humboldt State University. Brian then pursued further education and obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology, specifically in the field of Genetics, from the University of Arizona.
