Sebastian Kottmeier has a robust background in aerospace engineering, having graduated with a Diplom-Ingenieur in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Technische Universität Dresden in 2010. Kottmeier's early career included roles as a Development/AIT Engineer and Working Student at Hoch Technologie Systeme GmbH from October 2010 to September 2012, before transitioning to Airbus Defence and Space, where from October 2012 to April 2015, Kottmeier served as a Functional Propulsion System Engineer for the Ariane 5 Cryogenic Upper Stage. In January 2024, Kottmeier took on the role of Chief AIV Manager at Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V., overseeing the Advanced AIV Working Group and managing AIV efforts for significant projects such as the MMX Rover IDEFIX, DLR Compact Satellite, and Reusability Flight Experiment (ReFEx) until January 2025.
