Meet Dan MacQueen

"There is nothing like a brain hemorrhage to refocus the mind"


At 28, Dan was leading a healthy, active life until blinding headaches and blurred vision led him to an optometrist to find the cause. The optometrist cut short his exam, gave Dan a sealed envelope and told him to head directly to an eye hospital. Hours later, on June 21, 2014, Dan underwent emergency surgery to relieve dangerous pressure on his brain. It led to a devastating brain hemorrhage. 


Dan spent weeks in a coma and months in a rehab hospital in London, U.K. With no map to guide him, he had to rely on his grit, perseverance, and resilience to relearn everything he once knew: how to walk, talk and even smile. What he found out along the way might surprise you: there is nothing like a brain injury to refocus the mind! Driven by a positive mindset, Dan battled through excruciating rehab exercises to rebuild his life and return to a job he loved. 


What started as a way to give back to his rehab hospital by talking to outpatients has blossomed into a keynote speaking business. Dan has a strong background in training and customer success consulting after working for Hootsuite, a leading social media management platform, for almost a decade in EMEA and North America. 


As a keynote speaker, Dan has been delivering motivational and educational presentations on resilience, mindset, mental health and perspective for more than six years.

After being let go during a corporate restructuring at my Tech job last summer,  he has decided to grab the bull by the horns and dive into the world as a keynote and motivational speaker.
