Frederick Blattner

Frederick Blattner is a cofounder and CEO with a long history of experience in the life sciences industry. Frederick began their career in 1974 as the Oliver Smithies Professor of Genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1984, they cofounded DNASTAR, a desktop and cloud based computer software solutions provider for life scientists. In 1999, they cofounded Roche NimbleGen Inc., which provides microarray products and services to life science companies. In 2002, they cofounded Scarab Genomics, which is developing "clean genomes" to optimize E. coli as a biological factory for pharmaceuticals and for other applications.

Frederick Blattner began their education at Oberlin College, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Physics between 1958 and 1962. Frederick then attended The Johns Hopkins University, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biophysics between 1962 and 1967. After, they completed a Postdoc Fellowship in Biological Chemistry at Harvard Medical School between 1967 and 1968. Finally, they completed a Postdoc Fellowship in Oncology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison between 1968 and 1974.
