Drew Sawyer

Drew Sawyer is the Sondra Gilman Curator of Photography at the Whitney Museum of American Art since July 2023. Prior to this role, Drew served as the Phillip Leonian and Edith Rosenbaum Leonian Curator for Photography at the Brooklyn Museum from April 2018 to June 2023. Earlier experiences include positions as Head of Exhibitions and William and Sarah Ross Soter Associate Curator of Photography at the Columbus Museum of Art (June 2015 - March 2018) and Beaumont and Nancy Newhall Curatorial Fellow at The Museum of Modern Art (June 2012 - May 2015). Drew's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Art History and an MA in Art History from Columbia University, where Drew also lectured from September 2009 to May 2012 and served as a Teaching Assistant from September 2007 to May 2009. Drew earned a BA in Art History and Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2001 - 2005).
