Dovetail Trail Consulting brings deep, nationwide expertise in accessible outdoor recreation, combining lived experience, technical training, and federal agency background to help land managers and communities design and maintain trail systems that welcome everyone.
Founded by Quinn Brett — the National Park Service's first Wilderness and Accessibility Coordinator, a competitive hand-cyclist, and the first known hand-cyclist to complete the Tour Divide. Dovetail applies both professional expertise and lived experience to every project. Our work integrates current legal frameworks, including the Wilderness Act, ADA, and ABA, with practical, sustainable solutions for trail access, mobility device technology, and universal design.

We provide trail assessment per Outdoor Developed Area standards for objective trail data collection, staff and community training, policy drafting, and program access consulting for National Forests, National Parks, state and city parks, and resorts across the country. Our services include:

Trail measurements and mapping (grade, cross slope, tread width, surface type)
Facility and recreational site accessibility audits
Water access, adaptive mountain biking, and program access consulting
Signage, kiosks, and trail information design
OPDMD and mobility device policy drafting
Staff and community education and training

We believe truly sustainable trail work accounts for more than environmental and economic durability — it includes the social and health value of making outdoor spaces genuinely usable for everyone, including people with mobility disabilities.
Like a dovetail joint, good accessibility work fits precisely, holds under pressure, and lasts. Cut to fit. Built to hold.
