Matthew Thornton

Matthew Thornton is a Design Engineer specializing in Structures at Downer since November 2019, focusing on Temporary Works Engineering, including formwork, propping, shoring, and drafting using AutoCAD and Sketch Up. Key projects include the NZTA Hikuwai Bailey Bridge, KiwiRail iReX, and the Porirua City Council WWRT, among others. Matthew has also contributed to the Young Leader's Committee, promoting the development of young professionals within the organization. Prior experience includes roles as a Graduate Engineer in Temporary Works and Bid-Estimating, where Matthew gained expertise in procurement, estimating principles, and commercial considerations. Matthew holds a BE(Hons)/BCom in Civil Engineering from The University of Auckland and completed A-Levels at Westlake Boys High School.
