Matthew McDermott, PhD, is an engineer specializing in robotics, computer vision, and mapping. They completed their PhD at Tufts University, focusing on LIDAR-based localization and the reformulation of NeRFs for continuous map representations. With experience as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Tulip Interfaces and a PhD Resident at X, the moonshot factory, Matthew demonstrated expertise in system design and integration for robotic manipulation. Currently, they serve as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Draper, where they focus on vision-based navigation and embedded machine learning.
