Head Of Climate Impact at Drax

Michael Goldsworthy currently serves as the Head of Climate Impact at Drax Group since September 2018, leading efforts to develop the market for high integrity carbon removals. Previously, in the role of Carbon Markets Development Lead, Michael supported Drax's ambitions for Biomass with Carbon Capture and Storage, engaging with various stakeholders to enhance investment in permanent carbon removals. As Head of Climate Change and Carbon Strategy, oversight and coordination of Drax's decarbonisation strategy were provided, ensuring compliance with GHG Protocol and SBTI requirements. Prior to Drax, Michael worked at NNFCC as a Senior Consultant, conducting market and policy research for clients in the bio-economy and advising on various sustainability-related factors. Michael's academic background includes a PhD from the University of Exeter, focusing on hydrocarbon biosynthesis in bacterial strains, funded by Royal Dutch Shell, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the same institution.
