Thom Best

Thom Best is an experienced professional in strategy and engineering, currently serving as a Strategy Manager at Drax Group since June 2022. Prior to this role, Thom held positions at National Grid as a Senior Strategy Analyst and Strategy Analyst from September 2018 to June 2022. Thom's career began at Ofgem as an Assistant Manager in Data and Reporting, focusing on renewable energy validation. Earlier experience includes technical roles at the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre and SSE plc, where Thom contributed to plant operations and efficiency projects. Earlier engineering positions at Drawn Metal Ltd and Alternative Access Ltd involved design work for significant construction projects. Thom holds a Ph.D. in Low Carbon Technology and a combined MSc from the University of Leeds, a Master’s degree in Environmental and Energy Engineering from the University of Sheffield, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University.
