About Dreamnature

Dreamnature empowers communities to domesticate native trees for people and nature through integrated, science- and indigenous knowledge-based approaches. Our work is guided by five core pillars:

Ethnobotanical Research & Community Appraisal
We conduct participatory ethnobotanical research to understand community preferences, limitations, and indigenous knowledge systems that influence the domestication of native tree species. 

Native Tree Germplasm Production
We support the production of high-quality native tree seeds and seedlings through community-based systems. We work with the Tanzania Network of Tree Growers, a local community of practice that partners with Dreamnature in seed collection and establishment of community seedling source centers.

Food Forests for People and Nature
Through training and community empowerment, we promote the integration of native trees into farming systems using agroecology principles, combining food and cash crops to strengthen livelihoods while restoring ecosystems.

Land Restoration & Tree Planting
Through the My Dream Tree Campaign, we mobilize communities and resources to plant native trees in degraded landscapes, supporting soil protection, ecosystem recovery, and climate resilience.

Monitoring, Data, and Impact Validation
We apply GIS-based tools, Kobo Toolbox, and field monitoring systems to track impacts, validate results, and generate evidence for learning, reporting, and peer-reviewed research publications.

Dreamnature works at the intersection of community empowerment, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods, ensuring that native tree domestication is locally owned, scientifically grounded, and socially inclusive.
