Sybil Melton

Sr. Solutions Architect at DroneUp

Sybil Melton has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Sybil currently holds the position of Sr. Solutions Architect at DroneUp since 2022. Prior to this, Sybil worked at Sentara Healthcare where they served as a Principal Technical Architect from 2018 to 2022. In this role, they were responsible for the architectural redesign of over 200 locations, including SDWAN integration, migration to BGP Confederation, and large-scale deployment of FortiGate firewalls. Sybil also played a key role in the integration of a Health Plan provider and optimization of Cisco Anyconnect during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before joining Sentara Healthcare, Sybil worked as a Network Architect at Dominion Enterprises from 2012 to 2018, where they were involved in equipment installation, network configuration, and data center migration projects. Sybil also gained experience in private cloud integrations using AWS DirectConnect, Azure ExpressRoute, and VPN solutions. Additionally, Sybil learned and implemented Cisco ACI to eliminate Spanning-Tree in the data center and migrated customers to EPG-as-a-vlan mode.

Prior to Dominion Enterprises, Sybil worked as a Network Engineer 3 at L-3 Communications from 2010 to 2012. In this role, they maintained the network for Special Operations military communication personnel, integrated new technologies, and implemented QoS policies to minimize service outages. Sybil also ensured network security by conducting audits, adhering to security policies, and documenting network configurations.

Sybil's earlier work experience includes roles as a Network Engineer 3 at Harris IT Services from 2008 to 2010, a Network Administrator at Bright House Networks from 2007 to 2008, a Failure Analysis Technician at Jabil from 2006 to 2007, and Fire Controllman Second Class in the US Navy from 2000 to 2006.

Sybil Melton obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science from Old Dominion University from 2010 to 2013. Sybil further pursued their education at Old Dominion University and completed a Masters of Science degree in Computer Science from 2014 to 2015. In terms of additional certifications, Sybil Melton obtained the ITILv3 Foundations certification from EXIN in January 2008. Sybil also obtained the Security+ certification from CompTIA in January 2008 and the CCNP certification from Cisco in July 2009. Most recently, in July 2018, Sybil Melton obtained the Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) certification from Cisco.
