DT-HATS is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network funded under HORIZON-MSCA-2024-DN-01. The project addresses the decarbonisation of heavy-duty transport, a sector responsible for around 30% of transport-related CO₂ emissions, by advancing the use of green hydrogen (H₂) and ammonia (NH₃) as alternative fuels.

The network trains doctoral researchers at the intersection of energy engineering and computational science, generating new knowledge on hydrogen and ammonia injection, ignition and combustion processes in transport powertrains.

DT-HATS will:

build a comprehensive experimental database on hydrogen and ammonia as fuels

develop validated CFD models enhanced with machine learning for predictive engine design

create digital-twin and reduced-order models to analyse H₂ and NH₃ systems from injector to engine level

Through its research and training programme, DT-HATS strengthens the digital skills of early-stage researchers and supports the adoption of green e-fuels in transport, contributing to Europe’s transition towards low-carbon mobility and renewable energy systems.
