Ward Duft began their career in 1992 as a Copywriter for Eddie Bauer in Seattle. Ward then worked as a Freelance Copywriter for Cole & Weber, Herring Newman, and Nordstrom in 1996. In 1998, they became a Senior Copywriter for Cole Henderson Drake in Atlanta. In 2000, they moved to San Francisco and worked as a Senior Copywriter for Winkler. In 2002, they became an Associate Creative Director/Copywriter for Birkenstock USA in San Francisco. In 2006, they were Creative Director for Amplify, transforming the creative group into one of the most awarded teams in the region. In 2010, they became Creative Director for Chapter & Verse (formerly Magner Sanborn), which won Ad Age Small Agency of The Year in 2012. In 2014, they became CEO and Creative Director for SMG. Finally, in 2018, they became Cofounder, CEO, 1% For The Planet member, and Ad Age Agency of The Year, Forbes Agency Council for Duft Watterson.

Ward Duft completed a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and English Literature from East Carolina University in 1987. Ward then pursued graduate studies in communication at Duke University from 1990 to 1991. In 1994 and 1995, they attended the School of Visual Concepts in Seattle for advertising concepts.
