Jonathan Scragg

Jonathan Scragg is a highly experienced legal professional currently serving as a Partner and Chair at Duncan Cotterill since January 2009, and has held various roles including Associate and Board Member within the firm. In August 2023, Jonathan became a Board Trustee at Samuel Marsden Collegiate School, contributing to the governance of this independent educational institution for girls. As a Trustee and Chair of the Friends of New Zealand Schools' Debating Foundation since April 2013, Jonathan supports the growth of debating in schools across New Zealand. Additionally, Jonathan is a Presidential Council Member and Treasurer of the International Association of Insurance Law (AIDA) since May 2018, having recently joined the Executive Committee. Formerly, Jonathan was the President of the New Zealand Insurance Law Association (NZILA) from September 2014 to September 2018 and held various legal positions including Associate at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert and Solicitor at Duncan Cotterill. Jonathan's academic background includes a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Political Science from the University of Canterbury, completed in 2001.
