Antonia Scheidel

Antonia Scheidel has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Starting in 2008, they worked as a Research Assistant for DFKI GmbH, where they participated in programming in Java for the MUSING Business Intelligence project. Antonia also contributed to project evaluation and presented the project at CeBIT 2010. During this time, they completed their B.Sc. degree.

In 2011, Antonia worked as a Student Worker at the Saarland University Language Center, where they played a role in organizing the 2011 "Japan Week." Antonia helped maintain an event website, created a brochure, and provided advice to local students on exchange programs with Japanese universities.

Moving forward, Antonia worked as a Teaching Assistant at Saarland University from 2011 to 2013. Antonia'sresponsibilities included assisting in teaching-related tasks, such as grading and supporting students.

In 2012, they had an internship as an Internship Student at the National Institute of Informatics (NII). Later that year, they also worked as a Teaching Assistant at Saarland University.

Since 2013, Antonia has been working at Duolingo. Antonia started as a Software Engineering Intern and eventually became an Engineering Director. In their current position, they serve as the Engineering Lead on Duolingo's Retention Team. Antonia'sfocus is on keeping learners motivated to come back and reach their language learning goals. Previously at Duolingo, they worked as a Full Stack Engineer and Event Host for events.

Antonia Scheidel completed their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Computational Linguistics from Universität des Saarlandes in 2010. Antonia then pursued their Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Language Science & Technology from the same university, which they obtained in 2013. In 2010-2011, Antonia studied Information Sciences with a focus on Japanese at Tohoku University.
