Celena C. started their work experience as a Software Engineering Intern at Duolingo in May 2019. During this time, they implemented new features for the language teaching app, primarily focusing on the Chinese for English Speakers course. Celena worked on Android development using Kotlin/Java and also had some involvement in backend work using Scala.
In 2017, Celena worked at the Drucker Claremont Game Lab as a Software Engineer. Celena contributed to the development and publishing of an original game on the Roblox platform. From 2018 to 2019, they shifted their focus to creating a mobile puzzle/arcade game in Unity (C#).
Celena joined Microsoft as an Explorer Intern in May 2018, where they implemented a data classification component using C++. This component allowed users to automatically classify files based on their sensitivity and suggested labels and protection/encryption actions accordingly. Celena also presented live demonstrations of the component to various audiences at Microsoft, including a corporate VP.
Prior to their internships, Celena gained experience at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. In 2016 and 2017, they worked as a Simulations and Support Equipment Intern. Celena significantly contributed to improving existing spaceflight and flight simulation software, utilizing their skills in C++ programming. Celena completed a project in 2016, where they presented a working software prototype to a panel of JPL engineers and supervisors.
Celena returned to Duolingo in June 2020 and has held roles as a Software Engineer I and Software Engineer II, with their current position being ongoing.
Celena C. attended Harvey Mudd College from 2016 to 2020, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. Celena'sjoint major was in Computer Science and Mathematics, with an additional focus on Linguistics. Prior to attending college, Celena earned their High School Diploma from Temple City High School, where their field of study is not specified.
