Samia Khalaf

Art Manager at Duolingo

Samia Khalaf has a diverse work experience in various roles within the creative industry. Samia started their career in 2013 at The Green Ninja Project, working as a 2D Animator and Fabricator. Samia then moved on to Ghostbot, Inc. in 2014, where they worked as an Animator and Layout Artist.

In 2016, Samia joined TinyCo, a Jam City Company, as an Animator. Samia stayed with the company until 2018, when they joined Facebook as a VR/AR Concept Artist. At Facebook, they created concept art to support product designers and the art director's vision, and also provided 2D animation support on various projects. Samia's tenure at Facebook lasted until October 2019.

In 2020, Samia had multiple experiences in different companies. Samia worked as a Character Designer at Sun Creature from June to September. Later in the same year, they joined Oculus VR as a Film Director, directing "Kteer Tayyeb," an animated VR story about food. Samia'sdirecting skills can be experienced on Oculus TV and the Quill Theater. Simultaneously, they also worked as an Adjunct Professor at San Jose State University, teaching students in their area of expertise.

In 2021, Samia joined Funomena as a Lead Concept Artist, where they contributed their skills until March 2022. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Illustrator at Duolingo, starting in April 2022.

Samia Khalaf attended San Jose State University from 2011 to 2015 and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Animation/Illustration.
