Duncan Smith served as the Director of Energy Storage Research at Dyson from 2018 to 2022, having previously held roles as Research Manager and Head of Research in the same field. They completed a PhD focused on hydrogen storage materials at the University of Southampton from 2003 to 2008. Additionally, Duncan was a Scientist and later a Senior Technology Developer at Ilika Technologies Ltd., where they led projects and developed software in collaboration with Shell Hydrogen. They also participated as a visiting student at the University of California, Santa Barbara for six months in 2002.
