The 21st Century Pedagogy Foundation has been running the E-tanoda online mentoring programme since 2017, supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are often pushed to the margins of the formal education system. Within the programme, high-achieving secondary school students - mainly from Budapest - mentor their peers from disadvantaged communities through digital learning materials and online sessions.

The aim of E-tanoda is not only to improve academic performance, but also to build meaningful human connections and supportive communities. We believe that the internet can bridge physical and social distances and can serve as an effective tool for disadvantage compensation, community building and peer support.

The programme operates according to a “close mentoring” approach, applying the tools and methods of 21st-century pedagogy. Our mentors participate in preparatory trainings and regular supervision, and their work is supported by university student and adult volunteers. Today, E-tanoda is present in multiple locations and institutions, functioning as a continuously growing mentoring network that works towards a more just and inclusive education system.
