Ben Spirk

Controller at EASA

Ben Spirk is the current Controller at EASA. Prior to this, they served as the Vice President of Finance at the St. Louis Area Foodbank from February 2011 to August 2018. In this role, they collaborated with the President and CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team on the development and successful execution of the strategic plan. Ben also developed process efficiencies while controlling costs and strengthening internal controls. Additionally, they led the active Investment and Audit Committee, developed and implemented financial policies and procedures, oversaw all segments of the general accounting function, and prepared financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

In their previous role, Spirk was also responsible for maintaining a robust level of cost allocations, coordinating the preparation, enforcement, and company-wide education of the annual budget, preparing for annual independent audits and government monitorings, ensuring compliance with government grants, and acting as a liaison with external auditors, financial consultants, insurance brokers, and vendors. Additionally, they directed the organization's banking activities and ensured Form 990, 5500, and other governmental filings were prepared accurately and on time. Ben also oversaw and directed human resources, including benefit administration, payroll, employee file maintenance, and policy development and implementation.

Spirk is proficient in Microsoft Office and has supervised accounting, human resources, and administrative staff throughout their career.

Ben Spirk attended Southeast Missouri State University - Harrison College of Business and Computing, where they received their Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Ben is also certified by the AICPA in Not-for-Profit Certificate II, the University of Missouri-Saint Louis in Chancellor's Certificate in Volunteer Management, and the State of Missouri as a Certified Public Accountant.
