Rhian Howells

Rhian Howells has a robust background in plant molecular biology and bioinformatics, currently serving as a Senior Research Management Officer at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) since January 2019, where responsibilities include grant proposal writing and strategic management of funding portfolios. Previously, Howells was a Senior Research Scientist at NIAB from 2006 to January 2019, focusing on plant molecular biology and bioinformatics for wheat pre-breeding projects. Prior to that, a Research Scientist role at Syngenta (2000-2006) involved providing genomics support for wheat trait dissection projects, while an earlier position as a Plant Molecular Biologist at BBSRC (1998-2000) included identifying new promoters using Arabidopsis lines. Howells holds a Master's Degree in Plant Genetic Manipulation from the University of Nottingham and a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences with Cell Biology from the University of Warwick.
