Tom Brown has over 25 years of experience in software engineering and development. Tom began their career in 1994 at IVI Publishing as a Senior Software Engineer, where they were the Technical Lead for the company's proprietary C++ class library. In 1996, they moved to Radiation Oncology Computer Systems (ROCS) and was the Team Lead, developing products for planning, scheduling, treatment, and billing for radiation therapy clinics. In 1999, they joined Digital On-Demand (RedDotNet) as a Principal Software Engineer, developing the CD Production module used at Disneyland and other retail store environments. In 2000, they worked at Mallinckrodt (Nellcor/Puritan-Bennett) as a Principal Software Engineer, developing Reports and Communications modules for Clinivision MPC. In 2002, they joined Cardinal Health (Alaris) as a Software Development Team Lead, supervising a team of 10 people over several released products. From 2010 to 2011, they worked at Life Technologies as a Software Developer (Contract), developing and enhancing business logic and UI code for the Dynal MAGIC sample purification instrument. From 2011 to 2012, they worked at Source Refrigeration & HVAC as a Product Manager (Contract), supervising the requirements, specifications, development, and testing of the Asset Survey Tool tablet application. From 2012 to 2014, they worked at Carefusion as a Software Developer (Contract), refactoring the infusion pump embedded codebase to run in Windows as a pump simulator. In 2014, they became the CEO of eCaptions. Tom also worked as a Software Development Contractor at TBSoftware from 2007-2014.
Tom Brown obtained a Certificate in .NET Programming from UCSD Extension in 2010, a Certificate in Leadership & Management Program for Scientists and Engineers (LAMP) from UCSD Extension in 2005, a Certificate in Software Project Management from UCSD Extension in 2005, an MBA in Accounting from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1989-1991, and a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of Puget Sound in 1989.
