Mr. Dan Carnahan, P.E. is President of CT 184 Consulting, LLC specializing in automation and control system standards and their application. He has worked on numerous automation & control applications over the last 40 years. He recently retired as Principal Engineer for Rockwell Automation, Advanced Technology. He worked for Rockwell Automation for over 29 years in various program, project management and systems, product, network-related, electronic catalog, and safety standards areas. He has several patents related to industrial automation technologies and applications.

Mr. Carnahan is the Chairman of Combined/ANSI USTAGs for ISO/TC 184 (Automation Systems & Integration), ISO/TC 184/SC 5 ISO/TC 184/SC 05 “Interoperability, integration, and architectures for enterprise systems and automation applications”, and ISO/TC 184/SC 4 “Industrial Data.” He was convener forISO/TC 184/SC 05/WG 07 “Diagnostic and maintenance applications integration” working group engaged in specification standards for interoperability of diagnostics & production systems (ISO 18435). He is currently participating as expert in ISO/TC 184/WG 6 (Oil & Gas Interoperability Project), IEC/TC 65/WG 16 (Digital Factory- IEC 62832), as well USTAG member for IEC/TC 65, SC65B, and SC65E. Previously, he has also participated in other ISO TC184, IEC, ISA, IEEE committees and working groups.

Mr. Carnahan has over 40 years’ experience working in industrial controls and automation, having previously worked for several companies in motion and automation assignments in different roles ranging from development engineering to project management and holds several patents in automation systems and applications. He has a BSEE from Ohio State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio. He is a member of NSPE (National Society for Professional Engineers), IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers), ISA (Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society), Cleveland Engineering Society, and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).
