Frank Nafe

Senior Radio Frequency Design Engineer at Echodyne

Frank Nafe has worked in the field of electrical engineering for over 20 years. Frank began their career in 1997 as an Associate Engineer at Exabyte, where they performed quality assurance and failure analysis of high-speed 8mm helical scan SCSI tape drives. In 2001, they joined Harris Corporation as an RF/Electrical Engineer 3. In 2005, they moved to Avanex (formerly Northrop Grumman-Essex CCPD) as an Engineering Manager/Senior Electrical Engineer, where they led a hardware engineering team of 8 people and contributed to the development of telecom grade tunable 10 Gbps fiber optic long haul transponders and transceivers. In 2008, they returned to Harris Corporation as an RF/EO Engineer 4, consulting on custom 2.5 Gbps and 9.9 - 12. In 2010, they took on the role of RF/Electrical Technical Manager at APIC Corporation. Then, in 2012, they joined Echostar Technologies Corporation as a Senior Staff RF/Electrical Engineer, designing and integrating 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WLAN (5 - 6 GHz) and 802.15. In 2016, they moved to Planetary Resources, Inc. as a Senior RF/Electrical Engineer Lead, leading the RF engineering team on 6u Cubesat and ground station RF verification and follow-on S/X-band modification project. Finally, in 2018, they joined Tethers Unlimited Inc. as an Electrical Engineering/RF Architect, initially guiding, mentoring, and overseeing a small group of electrical engineers. Frank then transferred to an architecture role and led the re-design of X-band transmitter and S-band transceiver, improving DFM, DFT, EVM performance, receive sensitivity, and minimizing spurious content over previous designs. In 2020, they joined Echodyne as a Senior Radio Frequency Design Engineer and Senior RF Design Engineer.

Frank Nafe received their Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado Denver in 1997. Frank continued their education and obtained a Master of Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida in 2009.
