Ben Rottke has a diverse work experience in the field of technology. Ben started their career as a freelance IT consultant, specializing in technology education. In 2014, they worked as a Technology Educator.

In 2016, Ben joined Jibestream as a Software Engineer. Ben played a critical role in transitioning their CMS product from an on-premise service to a multitenant PaaS product on Azure. Ben'sresponsibilities included writing RESTful web services and using a technology stack consisting of Java, Jersey, Spring Framework, Hibernate ORM, Tomcat, and PostgreSQL.

In 2017, Ben worked as a Cybersecurity Intern at RANK Software Inc. During this time, they contributed to building features for Rank's ML-backed network anomaly and intrusion detection product. Ben gained experience using various tools and frameworks, including Kafka, Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana.

Ben joined ecobee in 2018 as a Site Reliability Engineer. Ben later took on the role of Senior Site Reliability Engineer in 2023. Notably, they were deployed to Leeds, UK for two months to assist in making a camera product launch-ready. In that time, they established an on-call rotation, conducted training on Kubernetes, introduced core principles of SRE (such as SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets), and managed the migration of the server backend from AWS to Kubernetes on GCP.

Ben Rottke attended the University of Guelph from 2014 to 2020, where they pursued a Bachelor of Computing degree with a field of study in Honours Computer Science (Co-op). Prior to that, they completed their secondary education at Port Credit Secondary School from 2010 to 2014, specializing in the Regional Science-Technology Program. In addition to their formal education, Ben obtained a certification as a Certified Kubernetes Administrator from The Linux Foundation in October 2022.
