Aerospace embedded software & GNC (Guidance, Navigation, & Control) engineer at Edge Autonomy

Gabriel Staples has an extensive background in embedded software engineering and controls development. Gabriel is currently working at Edge Autonomy as an Aerospace embedded software & GNC engineer. Prior to this, Gabriel worked at Cruise as a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, where they developed C++17 and embedded Linux on edge devices for self-driving cars, along with Bash and Python scripting. Gabriel also supported circuit analysis and hardware.

Before joining Cruise, Gabriel worked at Electric RC Aircraft Guy, LLC as an Embedded Controls/Firmware/Software/Hardware Developer. Gabriel owned and managed the company, while also serving as an author and engineer.

Gabriel has previous experience at Uber Advanced Technologies Group, where they served as an Embedded Software Engineer. Gabriel worked on Lidar technology and self-driving trucks.

In addition, Gabriel has experience as an Officer-Engineer in the United States Air Force. Gabriel specialized in airplane flight controls, UAV operations, and rocket/space launch. Gabriel also completed a language program in French and Spanish. During their time in the Air Force, they conducted advanced research on flight controls and navigation algorithms and wrote embedded software on microcontrollers.

Gabriel Staples has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Aeronautical Engineering with a minor in Arabic from the United States Air Force Academy, which they completed in 2010. Gabriel then pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, which they completed between 2010 and 2011. In 2015, Gabriel worked as a researcher in drone controls firmware and software at The Ohio State University. In 2017, they were a researcher in the Dynamic Systems and Controls lab at the Florida Institute of Technology.
