Carl Ward has worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Edge Impulse since 2022. Prior to that, they were a Senior Scientist, Computational Biology at Bit Bio from 2020 to 2022. From 2017 to 2020, they were a Zhujiang Talent Overseas Postdoc at Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, where they developed Docker-based pipelines and used machine learning libraries such as Keras, xgboost, sci-kit learn and caret to classify biological image data and understand high dimensional data. From 2010 to 2017, they worked at the University of Birmingham as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Post Graduate Researcher. During this time, they established methods for automated imaging acquisition and analysis, used CRISPR/cas9 to generate knock-out and knock-in cell lines, and acquired and analyzed bulk RNA-seq, bulk ATAC-seq and ChIP-seq.
Carl Ward completed their education with a PhD in Biology from the University of Birmingham in 2014. Prior to this, they obtained an MRes in Biomedical Research from the University of Birmingham in 2011 and an MRes in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Birmingham in 2010. Carl received a BSc in Applied and Human Biology from Aston University in 2009 and attended King Edwards VI Five Ways prior to that.
