EDUCAUSE
Joseph Ryan has a diverse work experience in various technology-related roles. Joseph is currently serving as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer at EDUCAUSE since 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Director of IT Operations and interim Chief Information Officer at EDUCAUSE from 2019 to 2022, where they provided leadership in areas such as cloud architecture, security, and ITSM Service Desk. Joseph also served as the Manager of IT Infrastructure and Architecture at EDUCAUSE from 2019 to 2021, leading the transition to Azure-based hybrid cloud architecture and developing a new MDM management strategy.
Before joining EDUCAUSE, Joseph worked as the Head of the Information Technology Department at Auraria Library from 2017 to 2019. In this role, they led technology initiatives and developed a digital scholarship strategy in consultation with stakeholders. Joseph also maintained relationships with IT entities at CU Denver, Metro State, and Community College of Denver.
Joseph's earlier experience includes serving as the Head of the Center for Statistics and Visualization at the University of Denver from 2014 to 2017, where they led an in-house consulting service for researchers. Joseph also worked as a Lead Developer at EDUCAUSE from 2013 to 2014, leading a Drupal upgrade project and serving as a technical project manager.
Prior to that, Joseph served as a Humanities Research Associate at UNC Chapel Hill from 2011 to 2013, where they provided project management support and instruction on various technologies relevant to research needs. Joseph also worked as a Digital Projects Librarian at North Carolina State University Libraries from 2007 to 2011, where they managed diverse library-oriented technology projects.
Joseph's early career includes experience as a Systems Administrator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries from 2001 to 2005. In this role, they successfully implemented a server operating system migration and managed crucial services for one of the largest library systems in the United States. Overall, Joseph Ryan has gained extensive expertise and leadership skills in the field of information technology throughout their career.
Joseph Ryan has a Master of Science degree in Library & Information Science from Syracuse University. Joseph also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to their degrees, Joseph has obtained the ITIL Foundation Level certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice in August 2019.
