Milton Chen has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Milton is currently self-employed, serving as an independent speaker, author, and board member since 2010. In 2018, they joined the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as a Member of the Board of Trustees, contributing to their mission of supporting vulnerable children and families. Previously, from 1998 to 2010, they were associated with Edutopia - The George Lucas Educational Foundation, first as the Executive Director and then as the Senior Fellow and Executive Director Emeritus. Milton was also part of the advisory board for the Fred Rogers Center from 2003 onwards. In addition, they served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Panasonic Foundation from 2010 to 2020, and was a member of the National Advisory Board for the National Park Service from 2010 to 2017. Milton Chen's earlier roles include being the Center Director at KQED from 1987 to 1997, an Assistant Professor at Harvard Graduate School of Education from 1985 to 1987, and the Director of Research at Sesame Workshop from 1976 to 1980.
Milton Chen pursued their education at Harvard University from 1970 to 1974, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in social studies. Later, from 1980 to 1985, they attended Stanford University and earned their Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees in communication.
