Dara Smith is currently the Assistant General Counsel at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), where they supervise and participate in appellate litigation and amicus briefing in federal Courts of Appeal. Previously, they served as a Trial Attorney and Attorney Advisor at the U.S. Department of Justice, handling over 200 federal appellate cases and drafting opinions for Administrative Law Judges. Dara also worked as a Senior Attorney at the AARP Foundation, litigating cases to combat discrimination against older workers. In addition to their legal practice, they have taught legal writing and research as a Professorial Lecturer in Law at George Washington University. Dara earned a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and a BA in Linguistics and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Michigan.
