My mission with Effluential Synergies is for wastewater and biosolids be used as resources to improve environmental quality in communities. I argue that every municipal wastewater agency holds the potential to be the lead sustainability organization in its service area.  Its mission can be larger than meeting minimum standards for effluent to streams.  Water recycling, carbon capture, zero nutrient discharge, stormwater recharge, energy production and elimination of persistent pollutants are all goals around agencies may strive to meet community sustainability goals. The agency committed to sustainability could be an advocate for limited impact development, for "green" consumer products and for watershed protection. An agency commitment to sustainability will drive customer support and satisfaction, and ensure long-term financial stability.
