John Ging has extensive work experience in the energy sector, specifically in the areas of interconnection, operations development and compliance, near time operations, balancing market test and query management, system testing, access planning engineering, power system analysis, and renewable power generation. John has held various roles at EirGrid, including Head of Interconnection, Head of Near Time, and Balancing Market Test, Support, and Query Management - Team Lead. Prior to their time at EirGrid, John worked as a Senior Power System Analyst, Principal Access Planning Engineer, and Senior Lead Transmission Access Planning Engineer. Additionally, they have experience in academia, having worked as a Lecturer at University College Dublin. Currently, John holds the position of Associate Editor for the Renewable Power Generation (RPG) journal at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). John has also been an active member of the IET Ireland Network, serving as Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and committee member.
John Ging earned a Bachelor's degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University College Dublin from 1998 to 2002. John continued their education at the same institution and obtained a PhD in Optoelectronic and Photonic Engineering from 2002 to 2007. John Ging also acquired several additional certifications, including Google Data Analytics from Coursera in November 2022, Chartered Manager from the Chartered Management Institute in June 2020, and Chartered Engineer from the Engineering Council in August 2014.
