John Young is currently serving as Offshore European Policy Manager at EirGrid Group since June 2023. Previously, John held various roles at SSE plc from June 2019 to June 2023, including Head of Policy and External Relations - Ireland and Head of Policy - Ireland. Prior to that, John worked at EirGrid from May 2017 to June 2019 as Innovation Senior Lead, focusing on policies for renewable energy integration, specifically the DS3 System Services. Additionally, John served as a Senior Engineer within EirGrid, contributing to the facilitation of renewable energy and stakeholder engagement. From March 2011 to April 2017, John was the European Codes Development Manager at National Grid, overseeing regulatory development and stakeholder negotiations. Earlier roles included Energy Forecasting Analyst and responsibilities in generating forecasts to secure system stability. John holds a Master of Physics degree from The University of Manchester, earned in 2009.
