Nigel Thomson

Nigel Thomson is an experienced professional currently serving as the Interim Head of Function for Market Operations at EirGrid Group since November 2007, overseeing SEMO and SEMOpx operations. Previously, Nigel held various leadership roles, including SEMOpx Lead, where oversight of the electricity exchange for the Single Electricity Market (SEM) was a primary responsibility, and was actively involved in the European Market Integration Project, implementing new market arrangements for the I-SEM. Additional roles included readiness lead for Intraday Trading, overseeing customer service, market analysis, and critical functions related to registration, settlement, and credit risk management within SEM. Prior to EirGrid, Nigel managed IT projects in utilities at Accenture, contributing to market openings in Australia and Ireland. Nigel holds a BHons degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Canterbury.
