Elders for Elders Foundation (EFEF) is a registered non-profit voluntary organization committed to the holistic development, care, and empowerment of elderly, especially those who are marginalized and vulnerable. Established in the wake of the 2004 tsunami, EFEF initially focused on forming Elders Self Help Groups (ESHGs) to support elderly survivors. Over the years, it has evolved into a dynamic organization implementing sustainable, community-driven programs across Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

EFEF’s flagship initiative is the Community-Based Geriatric Palliative Care Model, where capable elders support bedridden elderly in their own villages, with professional medical and social work support. This innovative model strengthens community bonds and restores dignity and care for the aging population.

The foundation also addresses a wide range of elderly issues through its ‘10+1 Focus Areas’, tackling challenges like economic insecurity, neglect, isolation, boredom, abuse, loss of self-esteem, and lack of preparedness for old age. Its interventions include livelihood promotion, healthcare services, advocacy, literacy programs, and the construction of vital village infrastructure like schools, Anganwadi centers, ration shops, and toilets.

Beyond elderly care, EFEF runs projects like the ‘Adopt-A-Granny’ program in Kerala, school nutrition programs, sanitary hygiene initiatives for adolescent girls, and even healthcare infrastructure projects such as burns wards in government hospitals.

With over 11,300 elder members across 113 villages and extensive experience collaborating with agencies like HelpAge India, ONGC, and government departments, EFEF continues to expand its impact, inspiring a society where elders are respected, supported, and empowered.
