Nikolas Markou

Nikolas Markou has extensive work experience in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Nikolas started their career in 2019 as the Head of AI and Managing Partner at Electi Consulting, where they helped companies leverage data for AI strategies and product development. Nikolas also audited existing AI solutions for bias and inefficiencies and optimized solutions for performance and scalability.

In the same year, Nikolas also worked as an Industry Associate at UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies (CBT), focusing on blockchain technology.

In 2020, they joined Algolux as an AI and Deep Learning Engineer.

Prior to these roles, Nikolas worked at NavInfo (Europe) B.V., where they were an AI and Deep Learning Senior Engineer in the Advanced Research Lab. Nikolas developed object detection and segmentation models for the autonomous driving and automated maps industry, migrating existing pipelines and optimizing them for real-time use.

Before that, Nikolas was a Principal AI and Machine Learning Consultant at Data Synthesis EU, providing consulting services in the field. Nikolas also worked at yodiwo as an Advisor and Principal Engineer, where they developed novel machine learning algorithms for computer vision problems and enabled computer vision and machine learning for orchestrated IoT.

Earlier in their career, Nikolas worked at UTX Technologies LTD as a Software Engineer, focusing on LTE/4G platforms and providing machine learning and data analytics solutions. Nikolas also worked at SOFTimpact Ltd as a Software Engineer, building and maintaining a shipping analytics platform.

Outside of the technology industry, Nikolas served as a First Lieutenant (Reserve) in the National Guard of Cyprus from 2003 to 2005.

Nikolas Markou has a diverse education background. Nikolas obtained their Master of Science (MSc) degree in Advanced Computing from Imperial College London in 2010-2011. Prior to that, they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) and a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras between 2005 and 2010. Furthermore, they completed their high school education at Kykkos Lyceum (High School) in Paphos from 2000 to 2003.

Nikolas also possesses several certifications to enhance their knowledge and skills. In 2016, they obtained a certification in Machine Learning by Stanford University on Coursera. Additionally, they acquired certifications in R Programming, Regression Models, and The Data Scientist's Toolbox, all from Johns Hopkins University on Coursera, in 2015 and 2014 respectively.
