Jim Schmidt

EVP, Operations at Election Systems & Software

Jim Schmidt, executive vice president of operations, has built an impressive resume while working in the elections industry over the last 33 years. Jim started as a technician — manufacturing, installing, and supporting ES&S voting systems and customers across the United States. He traveled the globe representing ES&S as a sales engineer and director of manufacturing starting in 1998, transitioning ten years later to vice president of manufacturing and hardware engineering. In 2011, Jim was promoted to senior vice president of product & customer operations, and in 2017, Jim assumed responsibilities for Election Operations. Jim was promoted to executive vice president of operations in 2020.

During Jim’s tenure with ES&S, he has managed contract negotiations, hardware engineering, materials management, and domestic and international manufacturing.

Today, Jim leads the Product Operations Group, Customer Operations Group, and the Election Operations Group, all of which encompass hardware engineering, manufacturing, materials management, field services, depot repair, account management, training, resource coordination, election event-based services, including programming, poll book, ballot management services, customer support coordination, and technical support and ballot printing.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration of Technical Studies from Bellevue University and an Associate of Applied Science in Electronics.

In 2012, Jim earned the coveted Chairman’s Award for outstanding leadership and exemplary performance. This is ES&S’ highest honor.
