Derek Johnson is currently an Engineering Intern at Howmet Aerospace and a Co-Founder of Lift Switch, where an interdisciplinary approach combines mechanical/electrical engineering and computer science to innovate snowboarding experiences, specifically addressing snowboarders' ankle pain through a new locking mechanism for bindings. Derek's technical work includes Solidworks modeling, prototype development, and application of FEA and computer-aided programs. Achievements include being a semi-finalist in the University of San Diego Innovation competition and the Fowler Business Concept Challenge. Additionally, Derek serves as the Vice President of Education for Beta Theta Pi and has previous experience as an Assistant Manager and Cashier at Beach Hut Deli, as well as positions at Highlands Recreation District and as Member Educator for Beta Theta Pi - Zeta Omega. Derek is pursuing education at the University of San Diego after completing high school at St. Ignatius College Preparatory.
